Silver Springs, Rainbow, Juniper, Salt Springs and Silver Glen come up out of the limestone at close to 72 degrees, in July and in January. That is the job a Florida system has too: hold the house where you set it, dry, quiet and even from room to room, through a nine-month cooling season.

Humidity

Outdoor humidity sits above 70 percent most of the year. A system that is oversized or short-cycling never runs long enough to wring it out, and the house reads 74 and feels sticky. Right-sizing, sealed ducts and, where the numbers call for it, whole-home dehumidification are how a Florida house gets dry.

A nine-month season

Cooling runs from March into November. Capacitors bake in the sun, contactors pit from the cycling, and the condensate line grows algae in any warm, wet pipe. A documented spring tune-up prevents most of the summer emergencies and keeps the manufacturer's parts warranty valid.

Heat pumps, not furnaces

Marion County heats with heat pumps and electric strips for a few weeks a year. The first hard freeze is when the sticking reversing valve and the dead heat strip show up, and it is the one time of year the strips can quietly double a power bill.

How long do AC units last in Florida?

Less than the national figure. A system in Ocala runs nine or ten months a year and cycles far more than one up north, so ten to fifteen years is realistic for a well-maintained system here. The ones that reach the top of that range had a real tune-up every spring and a drain line that stayed clear.

How much does a new AC unit cost in Florida?

It depends on the size the house actually needs from a load calculation, the efficiency tier, heat pump or straight cool, what the ductwork needs, and where the air handler sits. We do not quote a system for a house we have not measured. The survey and the written quote are free, and the quote is for a specific matched system with what is and is not included spelled out.

Why is my AC blowing warm air?

Most often a failed run capacitor in the outdoor unit, a low refrigerant charge from a leak, a frozen indoor coil, or a thermostat or control fault. All four are diagnosed with instruments in the first twenty minutes of a visit. If the coil is iced, set the system to fan-only so it can thaw before we arrive.

Do I need a permit to replace my AC in Marion County?

Yes. An equipment change-out is a mechanical permit in Florida, inspected by Marion County Building Safety or the City of Ocala building department. The licensed contractor pulls it. A change-out without a permit is what a home inspector finds the day you try to sell.

Heat pump or furnace in Ocala?

Heat pump. It is an air conditioner nine months of the year and a very efficient heater for the handful of cold mornings we get, with electric strips as backup for a hard freeze. Gas furnaces make sense where winters are long; here the gas line and the flue cost more than they will ever save.

What does flat-rate pricing mean?
